Joanna Hu

Music Educator, Performer & Speech-Language Pathologist

Originally from Taiwan, Joanna Hu is a versatile voice professional, combining artistry, pedagogy, and clinical expertise to help individuals of all ages achieve healthy, confident, and expressive voices. She is fluent in Mandarin (普通話) and Taiwanese/Hokkien (台語/福建話) and provides voice training and rehabilitation for diverse clients and musical genres.

Ms. Hu holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from New York University and a Master of Science in Communication Disorders from Emerson College. She is a New York State–certified Speech-Language Pathologist and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA. By integrating her artistic training with clinical knowledge, she offers a holistic approach to voice development, vocal health, and rehabilitation.

As a performer, Ms. Hu has extensive experience in musical theatre, classical, and contemporary commercial music. Highlights include:

  • Lead role of Hubba in the Off-Off-Broadway production Gayuranus (Alien Theater Company, 2013)
  • Honored as a New Star by the Association of Vocal Artists of the Republic of China (Taiwan), debuting at the National Taiwan Recital Hall (2014)
  • Semifinalist in the 15th Competizione dell’Opera international competition, Linz, Austria (2015)

She has also explored experimental voice and movement in collaborations with the contemporary music ensemble NeoSonance and the electronic music band Dr. Fancy. Currently, she teaches private voice lessons at The Dalton School, guiding students in both performance and vocal health, while also providing specialized voice therapy at her clinic.

Ms. Hu completed her Speech Language Pathology clinical training at New York Neurogenic Speech-Language Pathology, P.C., and the Mount Sinai West Grabscheid Voice and Swallowing Center, gaining experience in working with both pediatric and adult populations. She specializes in voice therapy for professional voice users, singers, and individuals with vocal disorders.
